Description
I don't visit my home town often. Is it like I remember?
South Cliff is a short, text-filled experience that asks how reliable our memories really are.
Set in my hometown of Bexhill-on-Sea, the game takes a tour of the seafront, and my recollections of it. It is alternately funny, snarky, sad and a bit hopeful.
History
The beginnings of South Cliff came about after a number of years of being a little ambivalent about going back to visit my coastal hometown of Bexhill-on-Sea. Determined to bite the bullet, I committed myself to a future visit. In the meantime, it seemed like a good opportunity to reflect on what my memories of Bexhill were, and whether that ambivalence was really warranted.
The research I did along the way revealed some fascinating things regarding the onion domes at the historical Colonnade, the history of the wrought iron shelters along the seafront, and the genuine curation of the arts that the De La Warr did and continues to do. It also brought up recollections of wanton vandalism, strange occurrences, and hidden sea creatures.
South Cliff was finished during the pandemic, so the grand visit is on hold. Until then, I have the contents of this game to ponder...

About Argot Bertha Games
Argot Bertha Games is a games developer founded on the notion that intensely personal, authored games still have an important place in an industry where they are commonly made by teams numbering in the hundreds.
Argot Bertha Games is an outlet for Nick Parton, a long-time industry indie dev. So far, The Leaping Goblin and South Cliff have been released under this umbrella, with Dallas Doesn't Have To Die, Please Knock Ginger, Wound, and Wretched Creatures to come in the near future.
